Glow-in-the-Dark Jeans to 'Invade' Meatpacking District

By Andrea Swalec | January 25, 2012 8:40pm

MANHATTAN — One of the most fashionable neighborhoods in the city will soon be overrun with — gasp — fluorescent pants.

Los Angeles company Hudson Jeans will celebrate Fashion Week and the release of its new line of denim with glow-in-the-dark stripes down the sides by screening videos, installing street art and posting ads throughout the Meatpacking District next month, the company said in a statement.

The Feb. 9 to 16 pants blitz, called the "Phosphorescent Invasion," touts Hudson's $198 "Loulou Tuxedo Crop Super Skinny" pants, which come in olive green with neon green stripes, burgundy with hot pink stripes, and navy blue with orange stripes.

A psychedelic video of the bright pants shot by French provocateur Bertrand Le Pluard will be projected outside Scoop NYC at 861 Washington St. and Milk Studios at 450 W. 15th St. the night of Feb. 10, the statement said.

Locals can also expect to see works by Brooklyn street artist Aakash Nihalani, who places fluorescent tape around the city to "highlight the unexpected contours and elegant geometry of the city itself," according to his website.

The exact locations of pieces by Nihalani, who did not respond to a request for comment, have not yet been determined, a spokeswoman for Hudson said.
