MANHATTAN — Police are looking for a man who tried to deposit bogus checks into a closed account at a Chelsea bank — and got away with money before anyone noticed.

A surveillance video captured an image of the man Friday at the People's United Bank on Seventh Avenue near West 18th Street, police said.

The man, slim and in his 30s and wearing a baseball cap, was gone by the time the checks were returned with the notation "account closed."

Police ask anyone with information about the crime to report it confidentially by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), visiting www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting tips to 274637 (CRIMES) with the notation TIP577.
