OPENINGS:

As if the Bedford Avenue strip were lacking in coffee shops, a new cafe Toby's Estate has set up shop on North Sixth Street near its competition Blue Bottle. The Australian chain includes a sleek espresso machine called the Strada and offers eggs, sandwiches and other bites in its bustling Brooklyn bubble.

For heartier fare, and a splash (or several) of wine, check out the Spanish restaurant Mercado on Kent Avenue that debuted on Jan. 7 with three wood ovens, Basque tapas and whole pigs for tables to share.

And most recently, No. 7 Sub shop opened Wednesday on Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint.

The Bagel Store, which shuttered its previous location at Metropolitan and Bedford avenues amid rumors of a Starbucks taking over the spot, has relocated down the stretch to South Fourth Street.

Outside of the gustatory realm, Chi, a new massage and beauty store, opened at 529 Grand St.

CLOSINGS:

Celebrated barbecue joint Fatty 'Cue recently closed — but only for renovations. The popular eatery on South Sixth Street is expected to reopen in mid March, according to the restaurant.

Baby Talk kids' store is in its final days on Grand Street, where it is selling all its items after nearly a decade. The store told the Here's Williamsburg blog it will move to a cheaper location in Bushwick, on Knickerbocker Avenue near Myrtle Avenue.

Animal lovers have also lost a spot for shopping, with C & C Pet Supplies' closure this month at 769 Grand St.

ON THE HORIZON:

A complete renovation is in the works at 211 Kent Ave., at North 11 Street, which in May is slated to open as a bar owned by the folks behind Fort Greene's Brooklyn Public House.

And don't forget Mesa Coyoacan's forthcoming food trailer, Zona Rosa, which is set to open on the corner of Lorimer Street and Metropolitan Avenue in April featuring margaritas, tacos and late-night hours.
