QUEENS — An on-duty cop shot himself in the face and took his own life in Queens late Thursday — just after he reportedly ended a heated phone conversation, according to reports.
The officer, who was 28-years-old, died of a self-inflicted wound in the confines of the 111th Precinct, NYPD's chief spokesman Paul Browne said in a statement. He was taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:09 p.m., Browne said.
His name will not be released until his family is notified about his death.
The officer and his unidentified partner had responded to a call at 211th St. in Hollis Hills to look into a car break-in, the New York Post reported.
That was around the time that the cop took a cell phone call and got into a heated argument, the New York Daily News reported.
He reportedly shot himself a short time after that.
