MANHATTAN — A man has been charged with trying to rape a woman inside her East Village apartment building early New Year’s Day, authorities said.
Anthony Griggs, 42, allegedly followed a woman into her apartment building on East Seventh Street, near Avenue A, shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday, according to court documents.
As the woman was entering her apartment building, Griggs grabbed her by the neck and forced her inside, according to the criminal complaint.
The alleged attacker also bit the victim’s nose as she struggled with him, the complaint said.
He was arrested later that same day and arraigned Monday on charges attempted rape, sex abuse, strangulation, robbery, burglary and assault, according to court documents.
He is currently being held without bail, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
