MIDTOWN — So much for being happy with two front teeth for Christmas.

A Gucci store for kids has opened on Fifth Avenue between East 56th and East 57th streets, bringing even more decadence to the well-heeled and spoiled rotten.

The prices may not be as steep as they are for full-grown adults, but they come close. One jacket with a fur-lined collar comes in at about $1,995. Even a long-sleeved T-shirt can cost almost $200.

Given the sticker shock and the tendency of children to grow and spill and stain, it begs the question: Why would someone fork over the cash?

Many people stopped in front of the boutique on Tuesday long enough to snap a few photographs and giggle at the concept of pint-sized couture.

Some even ventured inside — but opted to keep their credit cards in their pockets.

Kostas and Despina Papadopoulos, who were visiting New York from Athens, Greece, stopped in on the off chance that they might find something for their 11-year-old son, but the high prices ultimately kept them at bay.

“It’s very cute, but expensive,” Kostas said, as his wife nodded in agreement.

Mike Walter, 43, was similarly turned off by the price tags he saw inside the store.

“Even for myself I would have a hard time justifying those prices,” Walter said as he walked out of the boutique on Tuesday.

Walter, who lives in Memphis and was in New York on business, was shopping for his three-year-old son, Tristan. He picked up a few presents at FAO Schwarz, including a Green Lantern action figure, but decided against any designer fashions.

“I went in there more just to see it. I really doubt I would have bought my son a Gucci sweater or a Gucci jacket,” Walter said. “I’m not going to spend $500 on a sweater for a three-year-old.”

But the store does have its patrons. On Tuesday, that included Charisma Jefferson, 20, who bought a $195 polo shirt and a pair of $245 leather sneakers for her three-year-old son.

Jefferson, who lives in downtown Brooklyn, said she has noticed that a lot of children wear couture. But for the most part, it’s Burberry, not Gucci.

“So I wanted to be, you know, different,” she explained.

Jefferson, who said she is currently unemployed, acknowledged that the prices inside the store are “outrageous, ridiculous,” but she said it was worth it.

Expensive taste seems to run in the family. When asked what she wanted for Christmas, she responded immediately: “I want a pair of Pradas.”
