MANHATTAN — A multi-vehicle crash on the FDR Drive injured seven people, one seriously, early Friday morning, authorities said.
Emergency crews responded to the scene at East 48th Street about 5:43 a.m., where seven vehicles were involved in the smashup, the FDNY said. The crash forced periodic closures of the FDR Drive's southbound lanes between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. while crews removed debris, police said.
A pregnant woman suffered minor injuries in the incident and was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition, police at the scene said.
The other six injured individuals were taken to Bellevue Hospital, with one person suffering serious injuries and the others with minor injuries, officials said.
Police at the scene said the pile-up occurred after a car struck a disabled vehicle traveling along the busy highway.
Southbound lanes reopened to traffic shortly after 7 a.m.
