MIDTOWN — It's a candy fan's winter wonderland.
Dylan's Candy Bar opened its first ever holiday pop-up store on Monday across from Bryant Park. Aside from the quirky selection of nostalgic candies that Dylan's usually sells, the store offered holiday-themed items such as “Naughty or Nice” candy bars, Hanukkah chocolate coins and an Advent calendar filled with candy.
"So far, the first day has been crazy amazing, there's been a line out the door since we opened," said store manager Kevin Acosta, 25.
A giant gingerbread house stood at the back of the store, which will be open until Jan. 8, along with a large candy Christmas tree.
Tourists and New Yorkers alike packed the store while employees handed out sample packets of jelly beans.
“I was looking for chocolate turkeys, I figured I should get something for the kids, and I found the chocolate turkeys,” said Lynn Fest of Somerset, N.J.
Julia McGuire, 60, and her daughter, Kate, 27, of Cornwall, N.Y., bought a number of Hanukkah coins.
“This was the first year we had to buy Hanukkah candy,” said McGuire, whose daughter's boyfriend is Jewish. Her daughter will be spending the holidays with her boyfriend's family.
“We're trying to schmooze him into marrying her,” she added with a laugh.
Others stuck with the basics, but enjoyed the holiday décor anyways.
"The store was pretty nifty,” said Andrew Ewen, 44, of Long Island. "I'll definitely be back to get some holiday-themed candy, maybe some candy canes."
