HELL'S KITCHEN — More than 100 people were evacuated from a Hell's Kitchen building Thursday after a mystery smell caused health fears.
Witnesses described the smell as being like nail polish remover. They said they'd noticed it for the last couple of days, but it got much stronger Thursday.
An FDNY spokesman said four people were treated for breathing difficulties outside the building at 330 West 42nd St., which is the address of the 33 story McGraw building.
It was evacuated at about 11:15 a.m.
The smell was later discovered to be caused by painting at the nearby Port Authority bus terminal, FDNY Lt. George Blondett said.
