UPPER MANHATTAN — Parking in the city can be a big headache and Community Board 12 is looking to lighten driver’s loads by freeing up some spots.
The board plans to hold a community forum soliciting public input on a plan to ask the city to reduce alternate side parking regulations by one day as a result of the district’s street cleanliness ranking.
CB12 district received a 95.9 average rating for street cleanliness, the same ranking Manhattan streets received on average this year, according to the Mayor’s Office of Operations.
More than half of Manhattan’s community board’s ranked higher than CB12 in terms of street cleanliness, including Community Boards 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.
Earlier this year, the city passed a bill allowing community boards to request the reduction so long as they could show their streets have maintained a 90 percent cleanliness rate.

CB12 ranked a 94.3 percent street cleanliness average in October 2010, according to the city.
“This is an important issue in our community,” said Steve Simon, chair of CB12’s Health and Environment committee during the board’s general meeting last week. “We hope to see many people participate in the discussion.”
The CB12 Health and Environment Committee will hold its forum on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. at 711 West 168th Street. Call 212-568-8500 for more information.
