Occupy Wall Street Protesters Storm the Streets

MANHATTAN — Occupy Wall Street protesters tore through the streets of Lower Manhattan Wednesday night in a show of solidarity with demonstrators in California, who endured a violent clash with police Tuesday night.

After a march to City Hall, parts of the group broke off and marched through the roads, weaving through traffic, which ground to a halt in several locations from the Financial District to the West Village.

About 10 people were arrested, according to preliminary reports, sources said.

Protesters could be seen at points running through the streets and dodging in between cars. Police tried to block the streets with lines of scooters, but the demonstrators just went around them.

During the rally in Oakland, Calif., on Tuesday, police used tear gas to disperse the crowds, causing some to vomit, according to NBC.

An Iraq War veteran was critically injured during the clash, suffering a skull fracture from a tear gas canister fired by police, rally organizers said, according to Reuters.
