EAST VILLAGE — A vigil for Donovan Salgado, 18, who was shot and killed in the East Village over the weekend, brought about 200 people to his East Ninth Street home Tuesday.

"My nephew was so young, he didn't even get a chance to live," said Salgado's aunt at the vigil.

She added that she understood many people were angry about the killing, but didn't want retaliation.

"Revenge is not the right thing to do. We need to love one another."

Salgado was struck by a bullet at the Campos Plaza housing complex on East 12th Street early Sunday morning.

He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where he later died.

A childhood friend of Salgado, who went by his middle name, Keith, described him as easy going and friendly.

"He was cool with everybody," said another friend, Joey, 18. "Everybody knew him. He had a good heart."
