MANHATTAN — A man was found dead in his Upper East Side apartment Thursday when marshals coming to evict him discovered his body and alerted the police, according to police and news reports.

The Medical Examiner is determining the cause of death of the man found in his East 62nd Street apartment, police said.

Police were blocked from entering the apartment in the walk-up by a pit bull covered in blood and had to call in Animal Care & Control to tranquilize the dog, according to reports.

The NYPD did not confirm whether the man was murdered, but sources told the Daily News he was found with a severe head injury and defensive wounds.

The NYPD is investigating whether the unidentified victim may have been killed by his roommate or the pit bull, named Bones, the New York Post reported.

One neighbor told the Post that Bones allegedly bit him more, saying, “That dog should have been off the street years ago.”

Other neighbors told the paper they heard the two men in the apartment fighting earlier.
