MANHATTAN — Straphangers looking to ride the 7 train in Manhattan this weekend should make other plans.
Service is suspended between Times Square and Queensboro Plaza until Monday at 5 a.m. due to an ongoing overhaul of the line, according to the MTA's website.
Workers are installing an automated train control system — the Communications Based Train Control — which will allow for more frequent service and countdown clocks.
"Fiber optic and computer equipment will be installed on the tracks along the entire line and on the subway cars," the site said.
The line will also be shut down between Times Square and Queensboro Plaza on Oct. 28-31, Nov. 4-6, Nov. 11-14 and Nov. 18-21 for work on the multi-year project, according to the agency.
Straphangers are advised to take the E, F, N, and Q trains and Times Square shuttle as alternatives. There will also be shuttle bus service, the MTA said.
Trains on the 7 line will be operating in Queens from Queensboro Plaza to Main Street during the construction.
Over the summer, the MTA "upgraded and replaced signal and track components and track wiring, rebuilt the power system and cleaned the tracks in the Steinway Tunnel" on the 7 line, the site said.
