UPPER EAST SIDE — Women on the Upper East Side have a new place to go for their mammograms, colonoscopies, ultrasounds, X-rays, physical therapy and other health needs.
NYU’s Langone Medical Center opened the Joan H. Tisch Center for Women's Health this week to offer comprehensive primary and specialty care for women.
The 18,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility at 207 E. 84 St. is just 2.5 miles from NYU’s hospital on 31st Street, but Andrew Rubin, Vice President for Medical Center Clinical Affairs told Upper East Siders at a Community Board 8 meeting Wednesday night that many of the hospital's patients live in the neighborhood.
Opening a facility like this, he explained, was following a larger, forward-thinking trend of health professionals bringing services — in a non-hospital setting — to where their patients are living.
"Even though you have all these great hospitals in this neighborhood, many of you who live here use NYU doctors," he said. "Basically you name it, we have it. We’re happy to be physically located in the community we already serve."
Cardiovascular services, internal medicine, breast health, dermatology, endocrinology, ear, nose & throat, gastroenterology, gynecology, mental health services, neurology, orthopedics, plastic surgery, podiatry, pulmonology medicine, rheumatology, urology, vascular services and women’s imaging are among the center’s offerings.
"The new center is equivalent to one-stop shopping with the ability to meet all the health care needs of women,” Dr. Nieca Goldberg, the center’s medical director said in a statement. “It will allow our elite multidisciplinary team of physicians to treat the whole woman in a single, convenient and private office setting."
