MANHATTAN — Washington Square Park is about to get a lot tastier.
Almost 30 local restaurants will serve food and wine in the park for the Village Alliance's ninth-annual Taste of the Village benefit on Wednesday night.
"The unique thing this year is that it's bigger and better," Village Alliance executive director William Kelley said Monday. "We've added a jazz trio and an expanded seating area."
Local favorites Tanti Baci, Nanoosh, Financier Patissserie and Otto Enoteca Pizzeria are among the restaurants set to serve up selections from their menus. They will be joined by Brooklyn Brewery and several Long Island wineries, Kelley said.
Tickets cost $50 each, with all proceeds for the 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. event going toward sanitation services for the park.

“Now that the bulk of park renovations are complete, more visitors than ever will come to admire and utilize Washington Square Park’s many features,” Kelley said in a statement. “These supplemental services are imperative to the success of the park in these tough budget times.”
Parks Department commissioner Adrian Benepe said in the statement that the department welcomes the additional support for Washington Square Park.
“We hope many Village residents and other New Yorkers will take this opportunity to support and appreciate the newly redesigned Washington Square Park, one of the City’s most historic and iconic open spaces," he said.
Tickets are available on the Village Alliance's website and at the group's office at 8 E. 8th St.
Taste of the Village has raised more than $400,000 for the park since its inception, according to the statement.
