MANHATTAN — Maison Ladurée, the 149-year-old Parisian pastry icon, will open its first American macaron shop on Tuesday morning.
The celebrated maker of the bite-sized French treats was originally supposed to open at 864 Madison Ave. on Monday, but Hurricane Irene delayed it — much to the chagrin of Ladurée's cult of macaron-obsessed, Eater reported.
The shop specializes in the rainbow-colored delicacies, which typically involve two almond meringue shells filled with a layer of buttercream, ganache, or other icing.
Twitter was abuzz with excitement for Maison Ladurée on Monday, largely from those who had been to the chain's Paris-based bakeries.
"Save me a choc macaron svp!" wrote Twitter user @LARAdras, using the French shorthand for 'please.' Other Tweeters signaled the macaron shop's impending landing in Manhattan with the hashtag #macaronapocalypse.
Maison Ladurée will open to its ganache-loving fans at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
