Jay-Z to Celebrate Album Release in NoLIta Tonight

NOLITA — Jay-Z is bringing his throne to Mulberry Street this weekend.

The reigning hip-hop king will be poppin' bottles in NoLIta Friday night at a free event to celebrate this week’s release of his new album, "Watch the Throne," with fellow rap superstar Kanye West.

The Openhouse Gallery on Mulberry Street will host the music mogul and multiple Grammy winner as part of three-day pop-up event to promote his and West’s new collaboration.

Cases of champagne were seen Friday being delivered to the space — which has hosted everything from grilled cheese-making contests to digital art competitions — in advance of the Brooklyn-bred artist’s arrival.

Guests can buy copies of the duo’s CD for $15, with 300 limited-edition discs including four additional tracks available each day.

To mark the occasion, the gallery space also brought in the stripped-down Maybach featured in the music video for the album’s hit single, “Otis.” The car will be auctioned off over the weekend, with proceeds going to aid the East African drought disaster.

An Openhouse staffer could not immediately confirm West’s attendance Friday night, though the possibility has not been ruled out.

The event runs from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. It is free and open to the public.
