MANHATTAN — Pier 54 is about to get very loud.

Indie folk band Deer Tick, which is known for its thunderous live performances, will play the last concert in the Hudson River Park's River Rocks series Thursday night. They will be joined by guitar pop band Dom.

Deer Tick, one in a string of recent rock bands with "deer" in their names, was preceded this summer by soulful noise-maker Tune-Yards and electro-pop group Metronomy, which played Pier 54 on July 14 and July 28, respectively.

Deer Tick singer John McCauley told Billboard magazine about a car ride that inspired his music.

"I heard Hank Williams on the radio," he said. "I stopped by a record store and bought a double-disc Hank record and went home and listened to it over and over again until I finished a bottle of brandy."

Reviewers at music site Pitchfork.com rated Deer Tick's popular latest album, the 2010 release "The Black Dirt Sessions," only a 5.6 out of a possible 10, writing that the band has "grown so comfortable in its own skin that it's begun to sag."

The Hudson River Park is offering a chance at winning two VIP tickets to the show in exchange for promotion via Twitter, in the form of retweets from their page.

Gates open Thursday at 6 p.m. Bikes, video cameras, chairs, coolers and pets are prohibited.
