UPPER MANHATTAN — Nearly a year after it was closed due to safety concerns, the Parks Department says it plans to repair and reopen the Dyckman Marina dock.

The pier, which is expected to reopen by the end of the year, had to be closed down because the railing had been deteriorating, putting visitors in danger, according to the agency.

“The rails deteriorated to the extent that people were at risk of falling through,” Parks spokesman Phil Abramson said.

Before the closure, residents of the area regularly used the pier for fishing and sightseeing, but have now been relegated to the parking lot that sits beside the padlocked entrance.

"It will be nice to have a place to fish again," said Rico Polanco, a fisherman who switched to the Harlem River instead of the Hudson after the pier was closed down.

"This summer is almost over, but there will be more fish to catch next year."
