EAST VILLAGE — Rest in pieces.

Beloved Second Avenue saloon Mars Bar was in the process of being gutted Friday following its unexpected closure by the city's Health Department earlier this week.

The department confirmed that the bar has not sought a follow-up inspection, after the establishment was shuttered by the agency Monday for having hundreds of fruit flies and conditions conducive to infestation.

The website Eater posted interior shots Friday of the bar stripped bare, while EV Grieve featured a photo of a moving truck set to haul away what's left of Mars' mortal remains.

A worker helping clear out the bar on Friday afternoon said he was busy combing through what's left of the space for some personal items.

Mystery had surrounded Mars Bar's final day before the building’s planned demolition next month.

The bar will have an option to re-open after the redevelopment of the site, which includes construction of a new 12-story building, required the bar to close for at least two years. The shiny new space, which will up to four times its current size, however, would lack the bar's famous grit.
