Bryant Park Extends Summer Hours

By Jill Colvin | July 20, 2011 10:01pm

MIDTOWN — Bryant Park is courting night owls to its famous lawn.

The park has decided to extend its hours and will now remain open until midnight Mondays through Saturdays and 11 p.m. on Sundays.

Up until now the park has closed at 11 p.m. seven days a week.

Bryant Park Corporation executive director Dan Biederman said the extension was prompted by the park's popularity at night.

“With the park’s ever-increasing popularity, we decided 11 p.m. was too early to close the park. It’s been pretty crowded at that hour, so for the rest of the summer and early fall, Bryant Park will close at the witching hour, except for Sundays,” he said in a statement.

The new hours become official next Monday, but are being test run this week.

Despite the extra hour, Bryant Park can't claim Manhattan's latest closing hour.

Madison Square Park stays open until midnight seven days a week and Central Park closes at 1 a.m. year-round.
