MIDTOWN — The actor who allegedly trashed the home of the "Late Show With David Letterman" said he is "ashamed" of his drunken rampage and wants to make it right, according to a report.

In an interview with the New York Daily News,  Jimmy Whittemore, 22, of Harlem, said he's mortified about his ill-fated night inside the Ed Sullivan Theater after a night of drinking and karaoke.

"I wanted to have fun. I never meant for this happen," Whittemore told the News. "I just want to apologize to the theater people. I'm ashamed. I'm still bothered."

Prosecutors said Whittemore broke into and trashed the Ed Sullivan Theatre while drunk early Sunday. He also allegedly broke phones and printers and urinated on broken doors, racking up over $5,000 in damage. He was the subject of jokes during David Letterman's monologue on Monday's show.

Whittemore said that he did not realize he had ransacked the lobby of the Ed Sullivan Theater until he was arrested. His lawyer said at his arraignment that he was so drunk he blacked out.

"Next thing I remember is laying down on the floor, surrounded by cops," he said.

He is charged with felony burglary and criminal mischief and is due back in court on Friday.
