MANHATTAN — A woman was rescued from underneath an F train at the Second Avenue station Monday morning, MTA and fire officials said.
The woman, who was not identified, landed on the tracks around 11:26 a.m. Monday but was still alive when she was rescued, MTA officials said.
Her right arm and left hand had been partially amputated when she was rescued, a fire department spokeswoman said.
Witnesses said they saw the woman being brought up from underneath the train, and said the woman was "bloody as hell."
"I tried to stop her," said Hilda, 42, who declined to give her last name. She said the woman leaned forward into the path of the oncoming train and leapt just before it arrived in the station.
Hilda said she tried to grab the woman but it was too late, and watched as the woman laid herself out across the tracks before the train came.
After the train passed over her, the woman began screaming, "help me please!" before first responders pulled her out, Hilda said.
Southbound F service was diverted over the A line between West 4th Street and Jay Street-Metrotech in Brooklyn.
M train service was halted between Forest Hills-71st Avenue and Delancey Street-Essex Street.
