WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Fort Tryon Park-goers will get to eat breakfast in the park, vote on the best muffins in the neighborhood and pick up a treasure or two at a double-feature of Fort Tryon Park Trust events this Sunday.

Kick off the day with a free breakfast, compliments of the Washington Heights celebrated Coogan's Restaurant, but save room for the Muffin Madness tasting contest where neighborhood bakers try to outdo each other with their culinary treats.

Categories for the bake off include Best Savory Muffin, Best Sweet Muffin, Best Healthy Muffin and Most Unique Muffin.

Winners will each receive a free ticket to the Toast To Fort Tryon/Taste of the Washington Heights Bid park fundraiser on July 14 on the Linden Terrace plus a Fort Tryon Park Trust T-shirt.

The bake-off is a new twist to the Trust's previously called Pancakes in the Park event.

Live music from kid- and adult-friendly band the RockDoves will serenade the feast and kids can get their faces painted by make-up artist PaintFacer.

Once those bellies are nice and full, park-goers can mosey on over to the Neighborhood Yard Sale on the Stan Michels Promenade where local residents sell their unwanted treasures in order to help raise money to underwrite a gardener for the Alpine garden in the park.

All proceeds for the day’s events go to the Fort Tryon Park Trust toward its gardens, volunteer initiatives, historic infrastructure and free public programs.

Tickets for both events, $15 for adults and $5 for children for the Muffin Madness breakfast and $30 to set up a table at the yard sale, are available online.
