UPPER WEST SIDE — The grocery store Upper West Siders turn to when they need quinoa at 3 a.m. is about to open a third location in the neighborhood.
Westside Market has signed a lease on a 15,600 square-foot retail space at 2589 Broadway between West 97th and 98th streets, Winick Realty Group announced Monday. The storefront was most recently a Duane Reade pharmacy.
The new Westside Market will open in late 2011 or early 2012, after a renovation of the new space, said George Zoitas, whose father John Zoitas started Westside Market in 1965.
It's likely that the new location will be open 24 hours, like Westside Market's stores on West 110th Street and Broadway and West 76th and Broadway, Zoitas said.
Zoitas said the new location is ideal for customers who take the 2 or 3 subway trains, which stop at West 96th Street and Broadway.
Westside Market stocks fresh produce, dry goods, a variety of prepared foods, sushi, a salad bar and deli, bakery and more than 500 domestic and imported cheeses.
Zoitas said he tries to keep customers coming back by offering new products before other stores do and charging fair prices.
He said he doesn't stock anything that he wouldn't buy himself.
"Our basic philosophy is, if we're not going to buy it, we're not going to sell it," Zoitas said.
