FINANCIAL DISTRICT — Guests entering a new Financial District hotel may feel like they're walking into a luxurious bank — and that's just what the designer had in mind.
Architect Glen Coben has crafted a sleek Wall Street theme for the interior of the new Four Points by Sheraton Financial District opening at 6 Platt St. in 2013. He revealed renderings of the interior Wednesday.
The clearest statement of the theme is in the lobby, which is lined from floor to ceiling with recycled safety deposit boxes. The lobby also features artwork made from LED light displays inspired by stock tickers.
Coben also drew inspiration from pie charts and the jagged graphs of stock prices, using sharp angles to create the outlines of furniture and the streaks of color that break up the rooms' floors and ceilings.
"We don't want people to come in and say, 'That's a check mark,'" Coben said Wednesday, referring to red slashes across some of the ceilings. "We want it to be subtle."
The design also includes more clearly recognizable references to Wall Street, like photos of familiar landmarks covering the walls of the bar.
Coben, who has a background in helping chains create local versions of their brand, designed the entire interior of the 28-story, 264-room hotel.
The Four Points will also feature a rooftop lounge and a second-floor bar with craft beers and cocktails, along with a fitness center and a 2,000-square-foot conference center.
