UPPER WEST SIDE — Lady Gaga, wearing an ensemble that left little to the imagination, gave a timid and tearful thank you speech to the fashion crowd at Monday night's Council of Fashion Designers of America awards after receiving an award for top style icon.
"All of you made me feel like a star before I was," she told the star-studded Lincoln Center audience, which included fashion legends Marc Jacobs, Anna Wintour and Diane von Furstenberg, reported the Associated Press.
Gaga, who told the audience she was nervous when accepting her award, arrived at Lincoln Center wearing a sheer black bustier by Thierry Mugler with a voluminous bustle and close to 10-inch platform heels only to remove the bustle before receiving her award, revealing a studded g-string.
Gaga linked Monday night's outfit to her early experience with high fashion, when she saved up her money to buy a vintage Mugler piece from a neighborhood thrift shop when she was a teen, according to the AP.
"As much as this award means to me personally ... I just want you to know how much this means to young Americans," Gaga who wore a turquoise bob wig said, according to the AP.
Gaga was not alone in sharing self-revelations Monday night.
While handing the international design prize to Phoebe Philo of fashion house Celine, Kanye West admitted to the audience that he has often visited the Celine store to try on women’s clothing.
"Knowing that would get me bashed by the hip-hop blogs," he said.
