MANHATTAN — It seems that the only person not worried about Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni's future with the team is Mike D'Antoni himself.
Despite Knicks general manager Donnie Walsh's decision to turn down a contract extension and leave the team, D'Antoni told the New York Post he's not worried about his future with the Knicks.
"No, I feel good," he told the Post. "I hate it Donnie is leaving. I owe a lot to him. We had three good years."
D'Antoni has one year left on his four-year $24 million contract. While he doesn't appear to be in danger of getting fired, the departure of Walsh means he's lost a powerful booster in team management.
"I think everyone was a little surprised" by Walsh's decision to leave, D'Antoni added. "Everyone thought they would reach a positive conclusion. But they didn't and now we go forward. Nothing in sports is surprising."
