HARLEM — A 16-year-old boy was stabbed during a wild melee in a park next to a high school at W. 135th Street and St. Nicholas Ave. Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
The teen was attacked during a fight involving up to 20 teens inside St. Nicholas Park, which is across n front of Bread and Roses High School, a witness said.
Emergency responders took the injured teen to Harlem Hospital just before 3 p.m. There was no word on his condition, an FDNY official said.
The brawl started when the injured teen and another boy faced off. Then two girls started fighting one another, the witness said. Within moments, a huge brawl erupted.
The victim was being bashed by several teens when police arrived at the scene, sending the others scattering, the witness said.
Police were investigating the attack and hunting for suspects. There was no immediate word on a motive.
Students from Bread & Roses insisted that the teens involved in the melee did not attend their school. A spokeswoman for the Department of Education said she was looking into the report.
The witness, who has been bed-ridden with an ankle injury, said it was her first day walking about.
"This is not what I wanted (to see)," she said.
