MANHATTAN — Spider-Man has had a makeover.

The trouble-plagued, $70 million musical returned to Broadway Thursday night — and was virtually unrecognizable, according to the New York Post.

The newspaper said the show included a heavily reworked script, additional songs and an enhanced love story.

The new look was introduced during a month-long break in previews. It follows stinging criticism for the show, the most expensive in Broadway's history.

The negative comments prompted lead producer Michael Cohl to welcome Thursday's audience by saying, "Welcome to all of you: ladies, gentleman and uninvited critics," the Post reported.

Together with harsh reviews, the show has suffered from several accidents, including a stuntman who fell 30 feet and fractured his skull.

Thursday's show suffered another glitch when the Green Goblin was left hanging while waiting for Spider-Man to appear, reported the Post.

"Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" is due to officially open at the Foxwoods Theater on June 14.
