WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Steps away from the area where a seal was spotted along the shore of the Hudson River this week, the Parks Department plans to celebrate its second annual Urban Wildlife Appreciation Day on Saturday in Fort Tryon Park.
Park rangers will also have some of the city's resident wildlife on hand, such as squirrels, raccoons, coyotes, skunks and eagles, for nature lovers to get an up close and personal look.
The free family event will also include entertainment, including puppet shows and interactive art projects as well as a live musical performance by the David Weinstone's Music for Aardvarks and Other Mammals, regularly featured on children’s television station Nick Jr.
Sponsored by the NYC Parks' Urban Park Rangers and Fort Tryon Park Trust, the event will take place on Saturday, May 7, from noon until 3 p.m.
The event is free, but snacks will be available for purchase.
