GREENWICH VILLAGE - Famed West Village Italian pastry shop Rocco's was shuttered by the health department Saturday.
The Bleecker Street eatery, which draws throngs of tourists and locals on a daily basis, placed a sign in the window: "Due to an expired permit, Rocco's will be closed. Sorry for the inconvenience."
A worker said that a permit for the establishment had expired and that they should have the issue resolved by Monday.
"It's a permit issue that I'm resolving," said John Houston.
Disappointed patrons gathered in front of the eatery, which was plastered with bright yellow Health Department stickers.
The Health Department did not immediately comment. A message left for Rocco's owner was not immediately returned.
