CHELSEA — A new eatery called "The Highliner" looks like it may open soon in the space previously occupied by Chelsea's Empire Diner, Eater reported.

The opening of the Highliner reportedly got pushed back from September to January, and then was delayed a third time. The latest is that the restaurant will open this spring, and Eater reports that the paper is finally coming off the restaurant's windows.

The permits on the door of 210 Tenth Ave, between 22nd and 23rd streets, belong to Gotham City Restaurant Group, which owns Union Square's Coffee Shop.

"...the restaurant will essentially stay in 'pretty much the same form that it is now,' except with a 'Coffee Shop flavor,'" said Coffee Shop owner Carolyn Benitez back in 2009. "The diner will continue to serve food around the clock, and the menu will get some 'classic American' tweaking..."
