WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — The first annual Spanish theater festival will come to Washington Heights this May, featuring original theatrical performances.
The Heights Teatro Festival put on by the arts group Teatro Las Tablas will debut its month-long program featuring contemporary theater and performance artists from all over the Spanish-speaking world, including Argentina, Spain, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Colombia and others.
Stories run the gamut from a comedy about historical figures, a drama focused on the romantic secrets of a woman, a political drama that looks at the revolt of oppressed people and the family ties of a Dominican American family, to name a few.

The festival, which will run from May 6 through May 27, is set to feature work from nominees and awardees of the historic literary and arts cultural group, Asociación de Cronistas de Espectáculos de Nueva York (ACE, or Latin American Critics), and includes theater groups Teatro FRAGAL/THALIA, Teatro TEBA, E3 Outlaws Productions, FenixUSA and Paula Crequet Productions.
Performances will be shown at various venues throughout Inwood and Washington Heights, but will debut at the Columbia University Alumni Auditorium at 650 West 168th Street and close at United Palace Theater at 4140 Broadway.
