MANHATTAN — It was finally curtains for the beleaguered 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark' musical Sunday with the cast taking a final bow before a new creative team overhauls the show.

Producers said they would begin previews of a revamped show May 12 and expected to premiere June 14 at the Foxwoods Theater on West 42nd Street.

Show creators Bono and The Edge of U2 will pen two new songs for the musical and choreographers were also brought on board to re-work the show's dance numbers, the New York Daily News reported.

Producers were set to ax the role of a so-called "Geek Chorus" of comic book fans who narrated parts of the show as well as diminish the role of Arachne, one of Spider-Man's nemesis, the News reported.

Some fans took to Twitter to mull over the future of the show's cast.

"I wonder if there is a support group for the surviving cast members of Spiderman the musical?" Twitter user BrentBuckingham wrote.

Some of the cast has dropped out of the show since it launched previews, as injuries and accidents have plagued the $65 million production. Stuntman Christopher Tierney suffering a near-fatal 25-foot fall into the audience in December, and there have been a host of injuries and cast members defecting from the show, including actress Natalie Mendoza, who suffered a concussion in December and stepped down from her role as the show's villainess, Arachne.

Director Julie Taymor and her creative team were booted from the show in March.

Spider-Man had been staging preview performances since November, and never officially opened.
