INWOOD — Five months after opening the newly constructed Indian Road Playground in Inwood Hill Park, families and local politicians plan to officially christen the space with the Parks Department at a ribbon cutting ceremony planned for Saturday.
Although the playground opened for families to play in November after more than a year of renovation, cold weather delayed the Parks Department "community-wide celebration" until the spring.
In addition to the pomp and circumstance, the event is slated to include live music and face painting as well as a Native American presentation. The Parks Department did not elaborate on what that presentation would include.

According to the volunteer group Friends of Indian Road Playground, the playground’s namesake Indian Road was once a trail used by the Rechgawawanc clan of the Weekquaeskeek tribe of American Indians.
The Indian Road Playground ribbon-cutting event will take place Saturday, April 9 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Inwood Hill Park entrance at the corner of West 214th Street and Indian Road.
