WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Upper Manhattan residents who have yearned for a peek inside one of the area's most unusual residences will get a prime view Thursday night when the house is featured on an episode of HGTV’s real estate program "Selling New York."

The 3,000-square-foot 1923-built Pumpkin House, which juts out to hang 250 feet over the Hudson River at 16 Chittenden Ave. in Hudson Heights, has been on the market for $3.9 million since November 2010. Its owner William Spink attempted to sell the house in 2005 as well, that time with an asking price of $3.49 million.

Spink, an interior designer, reportedly paid $1.1 million for the 12-room house in 2000, but soured on the home when the reality of homeownership sunk in after he had to pay for roof and façade repairs, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The Pumpkin House, which got its name because the shape of its windows makes the building’s façade look like a carved pumpkin, boasts an original "marble mantle, south and west facing terrace, floor to ceiling windows providing an incomparable vista and incredible sunlight, charming formal dining room, cozy library and kitchen," according to Gumley Haft Kleier, the agency representing the home.
