MANHATTAN — Everyone knows Lady Gaga is a style icon — now she'll have an award to prove it.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) named the star as the recipient of their 2011 Fashion Icon Award, according to their website.
The Upper West Side native will receive the honor for "being a fashion revolutionary impacting style today," a statement on their website said.
Though Lady Gaga's award is honorary, other awards — including those for womenswear designer of the year and menswear designer of the year — are voted on by members and industry insiders as well as fashion retailers and journalists.
"We look forward to once again honoring the best and brightest talent working today," Steven Kolb, CFDA executive director, said in a statement on the site. "Winning a CFDA Fashion Award is the highest and one of the most coveted honors one can receive in our industry."
This year's star-studded awards gala will take place at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall on June 6.
