MIDTOWN — Where there's smoke there's ... welding.
Workers at 787 Seventh Avenue on West 51st Street called firefighters to report a suspicious smoke smell on the 43rd floor Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
After inspecting the building, FDNY officials determined the smoke had wafted up from a welding project on the building's 35th floor, said a spokesman with the department.
Employees at the smoke-affected floor, which serves as the headquarters for the Wilkie, Farr and Gallagher firm, said they left the building to avoid the strong smell but that firefighters told them to "carry on as usual."
