MANHATTAN — A Harlem man is under arrest after a fight with his mother turned deadly on Sunday morning, police said.
Officials said Leonard Arzu, 45, was fighting with his 63-year-old mother Betty Arzu inside the apartment they shared on St. Nicholas Avenue at 133rd St. when he grabbed her and threw her onto the ground.
Leonard Arzu snapped when his mother told him he used the phone too much, the Daily News reported. He reportedly has a history of arrests for assault and drugs, according to the paper.
When police arrived at the apartment around 8:20 a.m., Betty Arzu complained that she was having difficulty breathing, police said. She was taken by ambulance to Harlem Hospital Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Leonard Arzu was arrested at the scene.
Police said the city's Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
