MANHATTAN — Dozens of apartments were without power Thursday morning after a manhole began to smoke in Upper Manhattan, the FDNY and Con Edison said.
The incident, which was reported at 7:40 a.m., left 43 apartment units without power at 24 Thayer St. between Nagle and Sherman Avenues, fire and utility officials said.
A Con Ed spokesperson said a crew was on the scene and expected to have power restored within a few hours.
Heating was not affected by the outage, the spokesperson said.
