MANHATTAN — Get ready Upper East Siders. The Fairway Market has set a date for its East 86th Street store opening: June 22.
And jobs are expected to follow.
Two Craigslist help wanted ads, with the expected opening date of the 240 E. 86th St. space, went live on Monday afternoon. One sought prep and line cooks, meat and fish counter workers and deli workers. The other was aimed at cashiers, receivers, produce clerks and cheesemongers.
"If you are passionate about food and want to be part of an exciting and growing company we want to meet you!," said the postings, seeking candidates with at least 6 months to a year experience.
Construction of the 45,000 square foot bi-level space began in October. The store will include an in-house Kosher butcher and bakery, coffee roasted on the premises and more than 600 artisanal cheeses.
Many residents are looking forward to the popular supermarket's latest outpost, but the East 86th Street Merchants and Residents Association expressed concerns about truck traffic. They pledged to be watchdogs, making sure the store adhered to rules of loading zones and hours.
Fairway, which also has stores on the Upper West Side and Harlem, among other locations, is offering meat butchers $16.70 an hour and up, while other positions are being advertised as paying $7.50 to $11 an hour.
The market is hosting open calls at the Upper Manhattan Workforce1 Career Center on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Fairway did not respond to a request for comment.
