MIDTOWN — The walk down the aisle ended up being an elevator ride to the top of the Empire State Building Monday for 14 couples who exchanged wedding vows at the landmark for Valentine's Day.
The couples were selected to marry at the building through a contest on the wedding website, The Knot.
"Our Valentine's Day Weddings event at the Empire State Building has become a popular tradition over the past 17 years," said Melanie Maasch, a spokeswoman for the Empire State Building, in a statement.
Stephanie Hull and U.S. Air Force Captain John Wu won the website's grand prize and wed in a sunrise ceremony on the 86th floor observation deck Monday before jetting off to a fully paid honeymoon in the Bahamas.
Two FDNY firefighters who met on the job, Sarah-Marie Carpino and George "Pie" Callahan, were the second couple to get married Monday.
Valentine's Day is the only day of the year that the Empire State Building hosts weddings.
