Fire Breaks Out at Ornate East Village Church

MANHATTAN — A fire broke out at an ornate East Village church Thursday night, the FDNY said.

Fire officials said they received a call from the San Isidoro y San Leandro Spanish Orthodox Church, located at 345 East 4th Street near Avenue D, around 10:30 p.m., according to the department.

There were no injuries and the fire was under control as of 10:55 p.m., the officials said.

A video tour of the church posted on YouTube shows an elaborately adorned interior with portraits of religious figures framed in gold lining the interior.

The fire was contained to the third floor, according to the FDNY.
