MANHATTAN — Things are looking up for the Great White Way after a slew of foreboding closures last month, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Some producers feared the worst when a notable 15 shows took their final curtain call in January, but for most of the shows that remained it's been a banner month, according to the paper.

Of the 21 shows that stayed open, 12 saw the percentage of seats sold increase compared to December 2010, the Journal reported.

That fact is especially significant since January is traditionally one of the worst months for the theater industry, the paper said.
