UPPER MANHATTAN — Calling all female artists north of 155th Street.

The Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance (NoMAA) is looking for women to contribute to its second annual "Women in the Heights – Perspectives" exhibition planned just in time for Women’s History Month this March.

The nonprofit arts group is bringing together the thriving, yet often underground, creative class in Washington Heights and Inwood, debunking the myth that art only exists in the galleries of Chelsea and Soho.

"We have so many women working up here and we don’t really think about that," said Sandra García-Betancourt, executive director and CEO of NoMAA, of the art scene. She would like to see these women introduced not only to one another, but to the whole art scene citywide.

Last year's show featured 24 artists and brought in more than 200 people on opening night.

"It was an amazing show, with very diverse women of different experiences, different cultures, sharing the space and coming together," Garcia-Betancourt said, adding she wanted to see even more artists this year.

"These women have a different point of view and perspective," she said. "We want people to know that about them."

The deadline for submissions is February 3, at 5 p.m. Those interested can read submission guidelines and download the application at www.nomaanyc.org. Send submissions to info@nomaanyc.org and call 212-568-4396 with questions.
