PENN STATION — Amtrak service was temporarily suspended between Manhattan and Albany on Monday due to the extreme cold.

"The sub- zero temperatures have caused some signals, switches and equipment to freeze, and as a precautionary measure, Amtrak has temporarily suspended service between New York City and Albany," the rail agency said in a statement.

Bus transportation was being provided as an alternative, Amtrak said.

Despite the service disruption, long-distance trains to Canada and Chicago would operate as normal, Amtrak said.

Passengers heading on other routes were also experiencing delays.

"It's been delayed 35 minutes," said Randy Ralston, 44, who was trying to get back to Charlottesville, VA. "I'm not convinced it's going to be the last delay."
