UPPER EAST SIDE — Marymount School's tech-savvy rollout of an iPad curriculum for its students this year has earned the school accolades from Apple.
The company designated Marymount's curriculum an Apple Exemplary Program for its use of the iPad and iPod Touch in its classes.
The private girls school was the only school in New York City to receive the honor.
"We are committed to providing our students with robust experience in the use of mobile computing as part of our STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) initiative," said Concepcion Alvara, the school's headmistress, in a statement Thursday.
School administrators told DNAinfo about the new program in September and their future plans to have a one-to-one student to iPad and laptop ratio.
So far, the iPads have been used by students to respond to class readings in Advance Placement classes and by younger students to become comfortable with technology use in the classroom, said Kimberly Field-Marving, a spokeswoman for the school.
The school's next frontier will be publishing student work in eBooks, Field-Marvin said.
