HERALD SQUARE — A 51-year-old woman was hit and killed by an uptown B train at Herald Square early Monday evening, police said.
The woman's death was an "apparent suicide," according to police. She was hit and killed by the subway train about 6:24 p.m.
Her name has not yet been released.
"It's the holidays," a police officer on the scene said, shaking his head.
Gabriel Sordo, 40, of the Bronx, was waiting to take a B train home shortly after the incident occurred.
"It's sad. What an awful, awful thing," Sordo said.
Victoria Levin, 27, and her boyfriend Bryan Woolley, 32, both of the Upper East Side, had just gotten out of a movie and were very disturbed to come across the scene.

"It's horrifying," said Levin.
"It puts everything in perspective," Wooley added.
Uptown B and D trains were temporarily running on the A line between West 4th and 59th Street, according to the MTA's website. B and D train passengers headed uptown were told to take the F.
